    Mornin J-Dubb! I've got a similar problem. I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I use mostly for fun (my Tacoma is my daily driver), but I'm struggling to figure out how I want to mount my Yaesu FT-8900R mobile radio in it (basically the exact same radio as your TYT 9800). The biggest issue as you said is the top is fiberglass, and I still have the stock back bumper which is plastic. So not a lot of good options for mounting a mobile antenna. I could mount a small 2m/440 antenna on the hood, but I'd like to get the 6m band also (the 10m band on both of those radios is useless as its FM only). And the antenna that is designed for these radios is a little tall to mount on the hood. Have you seen any good Wrangle mounts with an antenna on the back? i'd like to avoid drilling into the body. Cool video too and congrats to your wife on her graduation! Jeremy - KF4CHW

    • @JDubbsadventure
      @JDubbsadventure 11 дней назад

      I like the finder mounts for jeeps no drilling. Put the radio body under your driver seat as long as water isn’t an issue.

    • @TimRoope
      @TimRoope 10 дней назад

      I know there are CB antenna mounts made that will bolt onto the Wranger tailgate tire carrier. I have one on my 2013 JK and it works well for CB. If you have a diffrent antenna size it might need to be drilled out or they may have one for those sizes. I've just routed the cable though the tailgate via an existing hole and cutting the gromet. I've read where some have aded a grounding strap for the tailgate to the body for some bands but I havent noticed any issues with CB.

    • @JDubbsadventure
      @JDubbsadventure 10 дней назад

      @TimRoope I wouldn’t worry about bonding straps unless you see problems, for short antennas vhf/uhf I like the front mount I don’t do much with cb other than play on skip at the house

    @USAF-SF 17 дней назад

    Hey Big Dawg, do your homework about ferrite beads, you will clear up your system immediately and they are cheap insurance... Also, research "chokes", you'll probably want to install one before you antenna connection and one before the radio. These will ensure you're pushing all your available power out of that antenna, and since you've only got 6 watts, your range will show an increase. RUclips is your friend for these suggestions, love what you have going on, have a great day...

    • @JDubbsadventure

    Question...doesn't the "R" stand for "reverse" and not "receive"? So technically, that would be your transmitting radio, right? I have these radios also and the instruction manual is one of the worst I've ever seen. Holy cow, it's bad. I'm having some trouble with mine staying on high power. Intermittently, I notice that I lose coverage and go check the radio, and it's on low power. Switch it back to high, but it does it again later. It's a very low use repeater, too, so I don't think it's getting hot. Initially when we installed it (with a duplexer, 50 ft LMR400 and a Tram 1486) I was able to talk on it 33 miles away. But since that day, we never been able to do it again. I'm baffled.

    • @JDubbsadventure
      @JDubbsadventure 22 дня назад

      I don’t have the manual with me but on mine the R is on the receiver. Make sure your on channel RP___ make sure both radios are set to high power if one is on low and the other is high then it will switch back and forth. Make sure your duplexer turned to your frequency and that your low side is your tx and the high is your rx. Also if your wondering witch radio is transmitting you can put your swr meter on the back of your radio with a dummy load the rx radio will not show anything and the tx will give you a reading of something

    I ended up buying the whole rar87 repeater kit from retevis because I wanted a little more power than the ra97. I think I have it working for the most part, however, I’m not sure I have my tones set right. I’m using dts and using the same dts tone for both transmit and receive, I’m just curious if you know if I need to A) have those tones set in both the radios B) just have them both on one, either the tx or rx radio. C) have one radio with r-cd and the other with the t-cd set to the DCS tone. Currently I have both radios set with the same C-cd which sets both radios to have all the same c-cd, r-cd, and t-cd. I seem to be getting good transmission while I’m near the repeater, however as I gained distance I seemed to be loosing the transmissions (very minimal distance) . I did not have that little r function set that you went over but I’ll see tomorrow if having that turned on helps the functionality. Any insight in setting the tones would be much appreciated.

    • @JDubbsadventure
      @JDubbsadventure 28 дней назад

      A I set both radios to the same tone B the little R means your reverse transmitting so your receiver has to have the R also make sure your receiver is plugged into the high side of the duplexer and use the frequency your duplexer is tuned to

    One of those simple kill-o-watt power monitors would have told you the same thing with fewer contortions. I'd advise anybody who is thinking about one of these Jackerys to invest 15 bucks in a meter/monitor to first decide how large a power unit you need to buy for whatever you want to power. Personally, I sprung for the 880, (will supply 1000 with a 2000watt surge) because I know it will power either my fridge or freezer. Tip: ANYTHING with a heater is gonna be a power black hole. Yeepers - I clocked my danged toaster at an 800 watt draw. Also, your kitchen fridge might be a lot newer or just plain a lot more energy efficient than the cheesy little dorm fridge. Needs further research on your part. Like I said - get one of those Kill-o-watt meters. Watch when it kicks in for the startup surge.
